Thursday 5/1/08 report

Fishing Report, Jacksonville Fishing Charter No Comments »

Jenny and Anna joined me for a half day inshore fishing, wind was blowing (as usual) so we stayed in the marsh. Started off slow with a nice flounder, then a few “lady” fish. We were finally able to locate a school of reds cruising an oyster bed. They were very spooky when we cast to them. Finally we had to just soak a live shrimp and let them come to the bait. We managed to get a half dozen or so to come to the baits. Jen and Anna were great to fish with and I look forward to seeing them again soon.

p.s. Jen, I’ll try to locate those sunglasses!!!!!!

A Trip to the Ledge!

Nigel, Miles, Matt and John joined me on a trip to the ledge. Seas were calm, we did get rained on once but in the middle of the rain storm Nigel managed to catch a 30 lb. dolphin!!!! John caught his first offshore fish, a respectable 42 lb. dolphin. Check out the photos and you’ll see all the catch. We ended the day with 5 dolphin, one blackfin tuna and a “ledge trout” (barracuda). A good time was had by all, I really enjoyed fishing with these guys and look forward to our next trip.

When will the wind and weather let up???? We need a few days of warm, calm weather. We did manage to get out Sunday for a day of trolling for trout. Ended up with about 20 in just a couple of hours.

Went out yesterday for another day and started out looking for reds, but the wind had another idea in mind?? We went back to trout fishing and had another day with 25 trout and a flounder. The water is cold and clean in the marsh. With the rain lately the trout are back in the marsh.

Offshore the black bass are on fire. Catches reported were good yesterday in the short window before the wind started blowing AGAIN!!!

Last weeks fishing

Last Friday we had Cody Peterson, Kyle Peterson and Josh Taylor from Lafarge, Wi. out on the Kat-Man-Tay II bottom fishing for their first time in the Atlantic ocean. They caught 80 black sea bass and some throw back snapper. Non stop action on sea bass for all the boats out that day.

Saturday we had Tre’, John, John, and Paul out on the Kat-Man-Tay II/2 inshore fishing for reds and trout. Check out the photo section and see the reds John and Tre’ caught. Beautiful day, bite was a little slow in the marsh but we managed to have good time.

Offshore reports still have the red snapper and black sea bass “on fire” and very close to shore. Short ride and a lot of fish. The weather looks like it will hold for one or two more days before it gets a little worse for the weekend.

Going out today with my daughter Katy, we’ll let you know how we do.

Nor’easter, go away

Fishing Report, Jacksonville Fishing Charter, Weather No Comments »

It looks like mother nature is not going to let us fish this weekend offshore. Have some good folks coming in from N.C. to go offshore on Sat. but it may not happen. No fishing now for over a week offshore with the northeaster and now another session of bad weather through the weekend.

With all this passing the bottom fishing should be good and wahoo season is coming up fast. Inshore the creeks should be great with the water cooling, just need the weather to cooperate.
